Required skills & experience:

5+ years of experience in computer programming is required.
Experience with RPG or JAVA programming language is required.
Leadership experience as well as experience and knowledge of the insurance industry are helpful.
Knowledge of development environments with ability to adapt to different environments.
Ability to work independently under minimal/no supervision.
Ability to interface and communicate effectively with personnel at various levels in the organization.
Possesses good interpersonal skills as well as good verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work within established deadlines and changing priorities.
Demonstrate aptitude and ability in computer programming and the application and knowledge to resolve complex problems.
Ability to use a high level of creativity and innovative thinking to analyze and design solutions to computer programming issues and problems.
Ability to mentor and provide technical education to peers.
Ability to work extended hours including, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Ability to travel for up to one week for training seminars and company business.

Description of duties & responsibilities: The primary purpose of this position is to develop and write computer programs to store, locate, and retrieve specific documents, data, and information. Specific duties include:

Write, update and maintain computer programs and software packages to handle specific jobs such as insurance administration, data reporting, inventory tracking, data retrieval/storage, and equipment control.
Modify existing programs to increase operating efficiency or adapt to new requirements.
Conduct trial runs and unit testing of programs and software applications to be sure they will produce the desired information and that the instructions are correct.
Correct errors by making appropriate changes. Conduct testing as needed.
Consult with others to clarify program intent, identify problems, and suggest changes.
Perform systems analysis and programming tasks to maintain and control the use of computer systems software as a systems programmer.
Compile and write documentation of program development and subsequent revisions.
Assist, Computer Operators or Systems Analysts to define and resolve computer program issues.
Maintain a high level of knowledge and skill in this field of work through attendance at relevant training programs, conferences, seminars, and/or through self-study.
Perform other duties as required or assigned by management.

Education Required: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or related field of study is required. Industry recognized certification preferred. LOMA 280/281 and 290/291 strongly preferred.
