Mayor David Declares “Security Mutual Week” and “Sock Out Cancer Day” in Binghamton

(Binghamton, NY • June 5, 2017) Today Binghamton Mayor Richard David raised Security Mutual’s flag over City Hall and declared the week of June 5 to be Security Mutual Week in the City of Binghamton. The declaration took place as the City and Security Mutual prepared to welcome more than 100 of the Company’s top life insurance agents to Binghamton for a three-day educational conference. The declaration also recognized the 130-year-old Binghamton-based life insurer for its many contributions to Greater Binghamton, including joining forces with the City to provide hanging flower baskets throughout downtown.

In addition to its reputation as a strong and stable life insurance company, Security Mutual is well known for its commitment to Greater Binghamton. Earlier this year, the Company unveiled Sock Out Cancer, a new program to help provide financial assistance to families navigating the road to recovery from cancer. And on August 31, the Company will again host the annual Jim “Mudcat” Grant All-Star Golf Tournament. Now in its 16th year, the tournament benefits four local charitable organizations, as well as local veteran housing programs.

As part of Security Mutual Week and in support of Sock Out Cancer, the Mayor also declared Tuesday, June 6, to be Sock Out Cancer Day in Binghamton, and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies will be sporting Sock Out Cancer socks at their game against Richmond that evening. At that game, All-Star celebrity “Gentleman Al” Downing, who played for the Binghamton Triplets in 1961 prior to joining the New York Yankees, will be throwing out the first pitch! Sock Out Cancer socks will also be available for sale to the public during the game.
