Security Mutual Life Lights Up with Heartfelt Message

Jan 26, 2018Company News

(Binghamton, NY • January 26, 2018) Beginning tonight and throughout the month of February, Security Mutual Life will be lighting the top of its home office building in red in recognition of National Wear Red Day® and American Heart Month.

“It’s a very simple way of sharing a heartfelt message,” said Security Mutual Life Chairman, President and CEO Bruce W. Boyea. “In addition to being the month we celebrate Valentine’s Day, February is a time to be thinking of another very important matter of the heart: helping prevent heart disease. We hope that shining the light on heart disease will inspire everyone in the Southern Tier to educate themselves about heart disease and to make simple lifestyle changes to improve heart health.”

Joining Security Mutual Life Chairman, President and CEO Bruce W. Boyea were New York State Senator Fred Akshar, New York State Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo and Broome County Executive Jason Garner, together with Regional Director of the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association in the Southern Tier Gina Chapman and Guthrie President and CEO/ Southern Tier Heart Walk Chairman Joseph Scopelliti, M.D.

Each year the President of the United States issues a proclamation designating February as American Heart Month, a tradition started in 1964 by President Lyndon Johnson. A vital part of American Heart Month is National Wear Red Day®—the first Friday of February—on which Americans are encouraged to wear red in support of the American Heart Association’s “Go Red For Women” campaign. Many people do not realize that in addition to being the No. 1 killer of men, heart disease is also the No. 1 killer of women. “Go Red For Women” helps educate the public about heart disease risks and symptoms for women, which can be very different from heart disease symptoms for men. And of course, the American Heart Association is dedicated to helping all people—men and women—take action to help protect their health. Be sure to visit the American Heart Association website at www.heart.org for a wealth of heart-healthy information, from tips and hacks to recipes, articles and videos.
